Senate Confirms Lee Zeldin to Lead the EPA

Yesterday, the Senate voted 56 to 42 to confirm Lee Zeldin as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the federal agency tasked with regulating pesticides and other farm chemicals, air and water pollutants from agriculture and food processing plants, and the greenhouse gas emissions that drive increasing climate challenges on farms.

Republican Senators unanimously voted to confirm him. Democrats voted against Zeldin, with the exception of three who voted in support: John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania), Ruben Gallego (D-Arizona), and Senator Mark Kelly (D-Arizona). Senators Cory Booker (D-New Jersey) and Jon Ossoff (D-Georgia) did not cast votes.

Civil Eats covered Zeldin’s background and confirmation hearing in detail here. (Link to this post.)
